What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a cosmetic dental product that consists of a series of clear plastic trays that moves one’s teeth–similar to the way metal braces would. These trays are worn all day and night though they are removed while eating. These clear mouth pieces present a more natural appearance and yet, they can be just as effective for light to moderate tooth movements.
Many adults don’t want metal braces due to their lack of professionalism and the inability to keep them clean. Likewise, teenagers are preferring the more natural look of Invisalign and an entire generation of kids may avoid the term “brace face” or made fun of because of their “grills.” And because the trays are removable, users can take them out during meals. This ensures they stay clean and that you can smile confidently throughout the day.
The Invisalign process incorporates a scan of your teeth now and produces a computerized model of where you desire them to be. From these two models, a series of plastic trays are created that progressively move your teeth to the desired position. Each tray is worn for a period of two weeks and replaced by another tray to continue the movement process. Over a period of months, the teeth are moved to their desired position.
An in-office consultation with Dr. Krusich in our Overland Park, KS office is required to determine if Invisalign is an option for your unique situation.

What to Expect With Invisalign
- You’ll begin with a consultation with Dr. Krusich to determine if Invisalign is right for you.
- Dr. Krusich’s assistant will take a panoramic X-ray of your teeth and make a mold of your existing teeth.
- This information is sent to the lab where a series of trays are made to move your teeth into the desired position.
- A computerized model and movie of the approximate tooth movements will be made called a clincheck. The clincheck will be reviewed with the patient prior to treatment to give you an idea of the number of trays required and expected esthetic result.
- If clincheck is approved by patient and Dr. Krusich your first appointment will be scheduled a few weeks later after aligners have been fabricated. At this appointment you will be given the detailed instructions on how to care for your aligners and when to where them.
- Every few weeks, you’ll switch out the tray and replace it with the next one in the series.
- You’ll have periodic appointments with Dr. Krusich to ensure your teeth are progressing as expected.
- After your last Invisalign tray is complete, you’ll return to Dr. Krusich’s office for an examination. At this appointment we will evaluate the final result. If everyone is happy with the result we will move to the retention phase of treatment. At this time we will discuss the various options to maintain this final result for years to come with the proper retainer.
Insurance and Invisalign
Invisalign is considered an orthodontic procedure. Unfortunately, some dental plans from Delta Dental, Cigna, or Aetna, don’t cover adult orthodontics unless you have an explicit rider for coverage. Therefore, Invisalign occasionally isn’t covered by dental insurance plans.
The cost of Invisalign is comparable to traditional metal braces. While each case is different, these costs usually range from $2,000 – $5,000. If you would like to consider a financing option, speak with the front desk. Dr. Krusich offers Care Credit and we’ve found them to be most helpful with financing Invisalign cases.
